CALDERDALE's kids will be spoiled for choice this summer when the July Project 2008 has more than 100 different activities for them to get their teeth into.
The festival – which runs from July 1 to July 13 – has something for everyone with more than 8,000 children and young people expected to take part in events and workshops across the district.
Youngsters aged from five to 19 can meet artists, authors, poets and performers, get involved in activities or just watch Calder-dale's budding musicians compete for the chance to win time in a recording studio.
The July Project is also taking outreach sessions to schools with more than 1,500 pupils across the district taking part in activities including film-making, street dance and DJing.
Now in it's second year, the festival is sponsored by the Halifax and organised by Square Chapel, Eureka and new partner Calderdale Council.
Festivities will officially be launched by Madame Doubtfire and Google-Eyes author Anne Fine and a massive finale on the last weekend July 12 and 13 will see youngsters enjoying a drive-in movie, fireworks, snow sports, beach games and much more.
The People's Park Festival, Halifax's multi-cultural festival of music and the arts, has also become part of The July Project this year and expects to draw over 5,000 people on Sunday July 13.
Karen Tighe, from the Halifax, said: "The July Project is a fantastic addition to the cultural calendar in Calderdale and we're delighted to have supported the festival since the start." Rebekah Smith, from Eureka, said: "We are delighted at the way this festival has grown as it offers young people in Calderdale access to a unique and diverse range of events."
Sally Martin, director of Square Chapel, said: "The festival gives young people the chance to participate in and experience some of the finest performing arts available in the North."
