TEENAGER George Hilton braved high altitudes and aching limbs to climb the highest mountain in the Alps.
The 15-year-old, of Cheltenham Place, Spring Hall, Halifax, was part of a group taking on the challenge of Mont Blanc.

It took George 12 hours to climb the 4,800 metres to the summit.

He reached the top at 2.06pm when he jubilantly called his dad, David Hilton, saying "Wow!"

George said: "It was exhausting. A few of the party suffered form altitude problems but reaching the top was wonderful, exhilarating and worth all the hard work and training we have done."

George's training included climbing walls and mountains in the Lake District plus ice climbing in Scotland.

George, a pupil at Manchester Grammar School, plans to study maths, physics, politics and electronics at Wellbeck Defence College in September.

He hopes to become a marine engineer for the Royal Navy.
