Published Date:

Members of Halifax Civic Trust were shown around Crossley Heath School by senior students.
Afterwards they heard a talk by Rose Taylor about its archive of documents and photographs dating back to the days when the original Crossley Orphanage was planned in 1857. She gave an account of the former Heath Grammar School, founded by a Royal Charter obtained by local vicar Dr John Favour in 1597, and which merged with Crossley and Porter School in 1985. She was thanked by Dr John Hargreaves, president of the trust.
The next event will be on June 24 at 6pm when the Friends of Lister Lane Cemetery will host an open evening. David Glover will give an illustrated talk in Park URC Hall on "After Death – Past Funeral Customs in the Parish of Halifax before 1900".
