Lincolnshire is hosting the world's first potato and sausage festival on Saturday 25th October to celebrate two tasty county exports and the International Year of the Potato.
The grounds of Lincoln Castle will become the heart of the festival between 10am and 4pm. The area known locally as Castle Hill, which describes the cobbled square between the Castle and the famous Lincoln Cathedral, will be home to the Lincolnshire
Sausage festival for the sixth year running.

The combination of these two food festivals is a great opportunity to celebrate Britain's best loved foods and of course the great British dish of Sausage and Mash! It is estimated that potatoes hit dinner tables across the land several time a week, whether it be chips, crisps, mash, roast, sautéed, hash browns, rosti, wedges, gratin or jackets.

This free family event coincides with the official International Year of the Potato (2008) and has the dramatic historic setting of being in the Castle and immediately in front, with the beautiful Cathedral as a backdrop.

Lincolnshire's love affair with potatoes can be traced back 500 years. Since then the county has become the largest potato producer in the UK. With the highest proportion of grade one soil in the UK, the food grown in Lincolnshire is of extremely high quality.

And Lincolnshire's trademark sausage is nationally renowned and loved thanks to the distinctive and traditional recipe of coarsely chopped pork and sage. In food retailers across the land, Lincolnshire Sausages can be found, making it possibly Lincolnshire's most famous export!

So what better place to celebrate sausages and potatoes than Lincoln?

For one day only the free festival guarantees fun for all the family. With cookery demonstrations from chefs including celebrity chef Rachel Green, an education area, competitions, entertainment from street performers, samples and all sorts of stalls.

Lydia Rusling of Tastes of Lincolnshire said:

"For a county that produces much of the UK's potatoes and is home to the famous Lincolnshire sausage it seemed only right that Lincolnshire hosts the world's first sausage and potato festival.

Tasty samples will be on offer from several demonstration kitchens and chefs as well as the Taste of Lincolnshire food champion, TV chef Rachel Green.

Visitors can discover more about the produce which makes their chips, mash and crisps. But more importantly everyone can learn about Lincolnshire's produce which is nurtured from field to fork and sent across the whole of the UK."
