HALIFAX centre Jon Goddard has predicted National League One rivals Widnes will try and "do a Sheffield" at the Stobart Stadium on Sunday.
Fax travel to Cheshire on the back of a miserable night in South Yorkshire last Friday, the Eagles romping to a 46-22 victory that dropped Matt Calland's side down to second on the league ladder behind favourites Salford.
Calland was furious with his players' performance, and Goddard admits that the Vikings are highly likely to try and expose the same failings this weekend.
"We watched the video from Sheffield the other night and it didn't make for good viewing," said the former Hull KR centre, one of the few players to escape the Don Valley Stadium with his reputation intact.
"Even though their points deduction means their league position isn't that great, Widnes are one of the top teams in this league, they are full time and they are going to be well-drilled.
"They are going to have seen the same video we did and they are going to try and exploit us in those areas again.
"It was obvious to us where we were lacking and it will be just as obvious to them."
And the former Castleford and Oldham player admits that is likely to herald a 'back to basics' policy as Fax chase a victory that would re-establish their title credentials.
"It's a learning curve and we will come out of it stronger," said Goddard.
"We are only human and we make mistakes, but it's really important we put down a marker on Sunday now.
"At Sheffield, we turned the ball over too cheaply, missed too many tackles and the smaller things in our game, like getting the ground work right in the tackle and making sure they were on their backs, weren't there.
"Even when we did get to our kick, we didn't chase properly.
"The key for us at the weekend is doing those fundamentals right and making sure the work ethic is there.
"Those are the things that win you games as tightly contested as Sunday's will be.
"Because if we play the game in the right areas of the field we will certainly score tries."
