THE season starts at Sheffield.
That's the message from Halifax stand off Graham Holroyd ahead of next Friday's National League One date with the Eagles.
Fax will travel to the Don Valley Stadium aiming to hold on to top spot after thrashing Dewsbury 60-20 last weekend.
It kicks off a gruelling summer for Matt Calland's side, who will face double headers against Whitehaven, Salford and Widnes over a period that will make or break their title hopes.
"It's good to be top, but the next two months are going to be critical for us and will decide where we are going to be at the end of the season," said Holroyd.
"The league really starts for us at Sheffield, it's the start of a big eight games.
"There will be some ups and downs but if we keep progressing as we are there will be probably be more ups than downs.
"We've got a couple of weekends off and the rest will be good for us, especially the guys who are over 30.
"I am sure we will be there or thereabouts."
Holroyd has been a key figure in Fax's rise over the last 12 months after Martin Hall, the club's current director of football, took a gamble and brought the ex-Siddal junior, a hate figure on the terraces after his unhappy 1999 season, back from cash-strapped Doncaster.
"My wife thought I was mad coming back after everything that happened before," admitted Holroyd.
"Martin said he would take the blame if anything went wrong but I think I've only missed one game and it's gone pretty well.
"I backed myself to make a success of it and it's worked out.
"I am enjoying it more than ever, to be honest.
"I have been through some turbulent times, playing under a lot of pressure at Doncaster and getting relegated from Super League at Salford.
"Things also happened in my life such as my father dying, that were hard to deal with. But my wife and my boys are right behind me and a lot of this success is down to them.
"If I could win something with this club now it would be the best thing that has happened in my career."
