HALIFAX Vandals Ladies beat a newly-formed Siddal Ladies side 34-20 in the opening game of the Summer League at Chevinedge on Sunday.
The Warley women have switched to the 13-a-side code for the time being after a promotion-winning season at rugby union.

Siddal were playing their first game and will hope to emulate some of the success enjoyed by the male sides at the club in recent years.

Vandals quickly took a 12-0 lead with two converted tries but Siddal replied from a scrum following a knock on from the visitors, Becky Caswell sending Amy Hardcastle over and Caswell adding the goal.

Caswell then cut the gap to two points with a try but Vandals' third try made it 16-10 at half time.

Vandals added another four-pointer before the Caswell-Hardcastle combination worked again and Danielle Bedford's kick made it 20-16.

Hardcastle completed a hat-trick in her first ever game of rugby but Vandals finished the stronger and added two more tries to pull clear.

Siddal coach Andrew Perry was delighted with his side's opening effort and said the players were looking forward to the next game.

I think Ladies sport is over looked in Halifax!
Halifax Vandals Ladies Did exceptionally well last season even though the other teams in their league messed them about a lot! They have been promoted into a league well above the standard of many men’s teams in Halifax! It was very difficult for them to keep an extremely good team together and have the good team spirit as an added bonus! Well done Girls! Any girls interested in play for the Vandals ladies please come training Wednesdays 7pm onwards!

after watching the game last saturday i would say there was only one team with team sprite.
the girls from siddal fought all the way through the game
and considering that 70% of the team had never played before against a team that has played rugby for years i think the future of the siddal team looks bright

i have to say that siddal played really well, especially considering the experience of the team.

however you say vandals have been playing for years. not really. 2 seasons i think it is, with this season only very few games being played, so that isnt experienced really. Womens rugby in the area is still deveoping.

- you cant say that vandals had no team spirit.
a less hostile siddal crowd would have helped. everyone at vandals helped each other, and didnt blame anyone for ant mistakes.

i never ever consider violance in a game. i think its disgusting, yet i still wanted to punch some of the supporters for what they were saying. i have never ever got that wound up in a game before. EVER. the supporters need to be more responsible

well done siddal and keep up the hard work - you will go far.
