THREE ladies of a certain age struck a chord with a mainly female audience at this comedy sketch show, playing to a full house.
There was a token male presence – about four of five – and I was anxious to pick the brains of the young man sitting next to us.
We were disappointed when he didn't return after the interval – but this was definitely a show for women.
Mutton opened with a dubious DVD of sketches that wasn't received positively but paved the way for the live performance by Jean Heard, Donna Flynn and Julia Munrow.
This was dished out in small sketches depicting all aspects of female life, from shopping nightmares to memory loss – and a delicious feast it was too.
Doing a meals-on-wheels run would give us all a glimpse into the future, said a clairvoyant. And "bulimic shopping" (in Tammy Girl – remember those stores?) where you "brought everything back" epitomised the desperate shopping exploits of the older woman.
The second half started slowly but was redeemed by the "Trusty Trendsetters" sketch, providing a hilarious spoof makeover.
Never has a toilet roll insert been used in a more inventive and hysterical fashion, as a 1980s-style shoulder pad.
These three comedy queens have used their insight and wit to touch a nerve with every woman. This is a show guaranteed to make women feel good about themselves and their age.
Any woman dreading the inevitable should see this show. It's a celebration of the resilience of womankind.
Forty and 50-something – bring it on!
