THE sounds of morris dancers, music and mummers filled the streets as the Rushcart rolled through Calderdale.
The two-day Rushbearing festival – now in its 32nd year – saw 60 men pull the decorated cart for 10 miles across Sowerby Bridge, Warley, Triangle, Sowerby and Ripponden to celebrate the centuries-old tradition.
Spectators enjoyed performances from dancers from across the country as well as music and a mummers play as the cart stopped at churches to present rushes and pubs for refreshments.
John Coupe, chairman of the Rushbearing Association, said: "We've had the longest procession ever this year and some particularly good dancing teams.
"It's an unusual event. There's only three other areas I know of that hold it."
Phillip Whitaker, from Sowerby Bridge, has been involved in the festival since it started.
He agreed to help pull the cart as a scout leader when he was 22 and now several members of his family take part. His son Ian, 24, said: "It's a tradition that gets passed down through the generations. I've been involved since I was little."
