A WOMAN crushed to death under her own car was a popular Calderdale artist, it has been revealed.
Tributes have poured in for Jane Dale, 49.
And fellow artists have turned her studio into a shrine in a moving tribute.
Mrs Dale died after her Ford Focus rolled down a hill just yards from the house she shared with husband Howard in Watty Terrace, Todmorden.
He was too distraught to comment yesterday and friends and colleagues are reeling. Mary Loney, a fellow art teacher with Mrs Dale at Todmorden Community College, said: "Everybody is shocked and we will all miss her dreadfully.
"I was only with her on Sunday. She was in a beautiful blue and green dress and we were drinking wine together.
"To think she was dead just a day later is too much to comprehend."
Mrs Dale, who was married for more than 25 years but had no children, taught and studied art at Todmorden, Bradford and Calderdale College, Halifax.
She also had a space at Northlight Studios, Valley Road, Hebden Bridge, and was a regular contributor to the town's annual art festival. Fellow artists placed a lit candle, flowers and stuffed animals among the artworks at her studio.
"None of us can believe what has happened and she will be missed terribly", said Sue Turner, an artist at Northlight, and friend of 10 years.
"She would do anything for anyone and was a big-hearted, lovely woman."
Close friend Sylvia Wadsley said: "She was such a fun person with a wonderful smile."
Mrs Dale was also a member of Todmorden Library Readers Group, and a keen ballroom and belly dancer.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident.
