Paul Smith collected the Courier Starman Award at a dinner in the Weavers on Friday evening.
Guests, sponsors and supporters joined players and their wives and girlfriends for the event and saw Paul receive his trophy from Courier commercial manager Janet Shaw.

Paul, a former Huddersfield second row, played in the 2006 Challenge Cup final before joining Fax last season and pipped centre James Haley for this year's award by a single point.

He made 25 appearances this year, scoring 10 tries, and is widely recognised as being one of the best – if not the best – back rowers outside Super League.

The dinner is an annual end-of-season celebration but this year the work is not over for the players - they are still competing in the playoffs – so after a moderate evening off, it is back to work.
