A TRAIN ploughed into a stolen trailer left on the tracks in Halifax.
It's thought someone had attempted to steal the trailer from a nearby yard by pulling it across the tracks with rope.

But the rope snapped and the trailer was left on the tracks at the Halifax side of Hipperholme tunnel at East End in Hipperholme.

The 8.13am Leeds to Halifax almost derailed after crashing into the trailer at 8.40am on Sunday October 5.

No-one was injured but there was damage caused to the train.

Insp Glen Alderson, of British Transport Police, appealed for witnesses to come forward.

He said: "It was completely reckless to leave this trailer on the tracks. The incident could have been much more serious."

Anyone with information should contact BTP on freephone 0800 405040 quoting incident number 104 of 05/10/08.
