THE owners of a golf club are seeking permission to turn a former cowshed into a 27-bedroomed motel.

The hope is that visitors to the Willow Valley Club at Highmoor Lane, Clifton, Brighouse, will want to play and stay.

Newsmith Stainless Ltd wants to convert the single-storey steel framed building by cladding it in stone, installing upvc window
s and a new metal roof.

"The proposal will allow the business to diversify by providing more services to tourists, such as on-site stay and play facilities," according to the company.

The shed is one of four agricultural buildings and lies in the green belt.

"The form, bulk and design will remain the same as the existing building and would not have a materially greater impact than the present use on the openess of the green belt."

It is intended to use the existing club car park and the access road off Highmoor Lane.

There are no plans to enlarge the single-storey building which is about 120ft long and only 12ft tall, at the apex of the roof.

Calderdale Council is due to determine the planning application in January.

The cattle sheds at Highmoor Lane were put up in the late 1980s and plans in the 1990s to convert them for industrial and commercial use were refused.

Approval was finaly given to change one shed into a health and fitness/golf academy in 2004.
