IT will be drumsticks at dawn for these two pals. They are both in the final of a drumming contest.
Jack Mosley, left, and Sam Speak, both from Savile Park, Halifax, have made it to the last 10 of the Beat 2008 young drummers competition.

The teenagers, who have the same drum teacher, have been friends for years but will go head to head later this month in Sheffield.

Sam, 16, said: "I was happy when I heard I'd got through – but not when I heard I'd be up against Jack."

The pair met at North Halifax Grammar School. Jack, 15, is still there while Sam is now at Leeds College of Music.

Sam, also plays piano and hopes to become a session musician.

Jack said: "I've been playing for a year and a half. I tried to learn guitar but it's really hard."
