'First buses have let us down again,' says MP after services axed

HALIFAX MP Linda Riordan has slammed a bus company after it stopped services along two village roads.
First has changed a range of routes around north Halifax, which means there will no longer be buses along Mill Lane and Mixenden Lane, Mixenden.
As reported last week, customers told the Courier the new timetable, which sees the 511, 513, 518 and 519 axed, will leave some people, particularly pensioners, stranded when it comes into force on Sunday, October 26.
Mrs Riordan said: "I am annoyed, angry and frustrated as I imagine hundreds of local people are. First buses have let people down yet again.
"These are key services that many people in the Mixenden community rely on and a much-needed lifeline for the elderly. It is time to fight back, time to stand up to First's profit-first-people-second attitude."
Mrs Riordan said she met First bosses three weeks ago and they did not mention the plan.
A First spokesman said the changes would provide a more frequent and direct service for people in north Halifax.
