Lydbrook Park,

Copley

There have been a number of letters recently expressing concerns about the redevelopment of the Sterne Mill site in Copley Valley.
I share these concerns, having had flood warnings twice this year already, but would be interested to hear, through your letters page, of any residents who support the proposed housing estate.

Can anyone offer a reasonable argument in favour of building up to 400 housing units a mile from Sowerby Bridge town centre?

Lots of good reasons to support this scheme:

Two thousand extra car journeys a day along Wakefield Road will slow traffic down and prevent accidents.

Extra children crammmed closer together in local schools will keep them warm during the coming world fuel crisis.

A thousand extra folk searching for work will depress local wages enough to enable better off people to be able to start employing domestic servants again.

Lots of work for loss adjusters, emergency services, carpet fitters etc after each flood.

Estate Agents will benefit too from rapid turnover as new residents quickly realise the risk of flooding and sell up.

Given the crisis, can anyone give a good reason for building any new houses, anywhere!?
