OLDER people are being encouraged to remain independent and in their own homes for as long as possible. Money and practical help is being offered and fuel poverty and warm safe homes are of concern.
Older people wish to do their own shopping. It is therapeutic and can be an enjoyable experience, being able to choose our own groceries and clothing. We need to make Halifax town centre a helpful and friendly place for older people to shop.
We are having a campaign to highlight the need for seating for anyone who has difficulty walking and needs just to rest a while before moving on.
Yes, there are seats outside in the precinct but often they are wet and, as winter approaches, very cold. The worst street is Market Street and the long journey from Tesco's carrying shopping to the bus station is difficult without somewhere to sit down and rest.
This is where all Evening Courier readers can help at no costs to themselves.
Tesco has said that if they get requests for seating of some kind in its store they will give it serious consideration. So please will all readers place a little request note in Tesco's suggestion box to ask for seating. You may need that help someday!
Thank you in anticipation of our first goal being achieved.
