I READ with interest your article headlined "Tower gets steel crown" (Courier, June 26) but was somewhat dismayed that the article implied that Stone Technical, of County Durham, had erected the scaffolding at the top of Wainhouse Tower.

This, in fact, is not the case at all. The scaffolding was erected by ourselves, Haven Building and Maintenance.
While I appreciate that you have a duty not to be seen to be providing free advertising it is still somewhat dismaying that the Courier shows a distinct lack of promoting local firms, especially on such a complex and high-profile job as Wainhouse Tower.
This was a very intricate and highly specialised, not to mention dangerous undertaking and we think the people of Calderdale would be proud to know that a local firm had carried out such a feat.
Unfortunately the Courier, the supposed voice of Calderdale, has failed to promote local achievements, instead choosing to sing the praises of a company based 150 miles away.
Haven's management and staff have worked very hard to make this company a success and everyone involved with the company is extremely disappointed that on a project as high profile as this one we have been totally overlooked.

(Company Secretary, Haven Building and Maintenance)
