IT was most interesting to read Conservative Coun Amanda Byrne's contribution to Your say, September 3. "We can help keep post offices open."

What this Conserva
tive councillor fails to mention however, that it was the previous Conservative Government which slashed the subsidy to Britain's Post Office.

In the name of market forces, they hived off the most profitable services to the private sector!

In the name of efficiency, profitability, accountability and value for public money, the Conservative Government initiated the closure of thousands of sub post offices.

Could this just be another case of convenient political amnesia on the part of another seriously afflicted Tory? As to the recent contributions of Conservative parliamentary candidate Craig Whittaker showing deep concern for Britain's pensioners, could he pleased confirm that under his chosen party the winter fuel allowance was zero and it was his parties advice to freezing pensioner to "wear another jumper."

To add insult to injury his chosen party imposed VAT of 8 per cent on domestic fuel.

I won't hold my breath.
