WHO would have thought that larger-than-life comic Phill Jupitus would be reading Charles Dickens in the rolling Calderdale countryside?
It's happening next month as part of Hebden Bridge Arts Festival, which has attracted a number of famous names to join its annual feast of visual arts, theatre, music and literature.
On Wednesday, July 2, Phill Jupitus – well-known to many as team captain on TV's Never Mind the Buzzcocks and It's Only TV But I Like It – will read Dickens at Hebden Bridge Picture House from 8.30pm to 9.30pm (£12, concessions £10).
During the reign of Queen Victoria, Charles Dickens performed readings of his work at The Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh and Phill Jupitus plans to recreate this event for Calderdale festival-goers.
More than 40 performances and workshops are taking place during the festival, which opens next Friday, June 27 and runs until Sunday, July 13.
