Dean Clough holds its breath for dance premiere

A WORLD premiere from a new, Yorkshire-based contemporary dance project takes place at Dean Clough, Halifax next week.
"... Even silence holds breath" by The JP Project takes the stage at the Viaduct Theatre on Friday, October 10, and Saturday, October 11 (7.30pm).
The JP Project's five dancers perform without music on a stone floor that was once a Victorian street, surrounded by the arches of a buried viaduct.
Choreographer Jonathan Poole says:"The minute I saw The Viaduct Theatre I fell in love with it: it had the unusual traverse seating arrangement that I was looking for, but it also feels dark and gothic."
Jonathan Poole's enthusiasm has not only led to the creation of the York-based JP Project, but has persuaded Dean Clough to programme a new piece of contemporary dance for the first time in its 25-year history as an arts venue.
The JP Project is also pursuing a programme of workshops based on "...Even silence holds breath" at schools across Yorkshire, including Calder High School, Mytholmroyd. Jonathan Poole has danced at leading venues across the world including the Royal Opera House and studied at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance, Leeds.
Tickets for the 50-minute performance and optional question-and-answer session in the Viaduct Café are £7 (box office: 01422 255266).
