A WEEKEND music festival in Ripponden aims to raise money for Overgate Hospice, Elland.
Licensee Gary Dunks and his partner Katy Manchip, (pictured) of the Queen's Hotel, have invited top bands from Calderdale to play tomorrow and Sunday from 4pm.
Eight bands have been lined up for tomorrow _ including Petross, Bluelights, Northern Glory and Codego.
And on Sunday there will be music from various outfits including an acoustic set from 13Lights and sounds from State of Error, fresh from their gig supporting Stiff Little Fingers in Halifax last night.
Gary and Katy _ who is expecting the couple's first child in two to three weeks' time - are chipping in £250 from their own pocket to get the fund-raising ball rolling and band members will be putting in cash of their own. Contributions from customers will also be welcomed by the couple, who are also organising an alcohol raffle tomorrow with a gallon of beer, a bottle of whiskey and three bottles of wine on offer.
The full line-up is: tomorrow: Imperdio (4pm); The Laconics (5pm); Petross (6pm); Bluelights (7pm); and Eclectics, formerly i.e, Codego and Northern Glory from 8pm. On Sunday Niamh O'Leary begins the afternoon, with Rick Bruce and Tim Whiteley at 5pm, Bongo Stress and Rick Bruce (5.30pm); 13Lights (6pm); State of Error (7pm); Red Star (8pm); Fear the Lizard (9pm) and Imperdio (10pm).
The free house will be selling a range of draught and bottled beer and special Queen's Hotel cocktails.
Music of a different kind is on the cards in aid of Overgate next weekend. The Overgate Hospice Choir, featuring St Peter's Festival Players, presents The Magic of John Rutter at All Saints' Church, Elland, on Saturday, October 18 (7pm). Tickets, £8, are available at the door, from choir members and Halifax businesses Harveys and Shoesmiths.
