A reformed band which first hit the stage 40 years ago will be playing a rare gig in aid of charity.
Rigor Mortis, originally known as the Mark - J - Sound, were formed by two teenagers working at the former Crossley Carpets factory at Dean Clough, Halifax.
Clive Jennett, a drummer, worked in the printing department and guitarist Dave Brown was in sales. By the early 1970s they were joined by lead guitarist Alan Sheldrake when Clive moved onto lead vocals and another drummer, Jeremy Coates, was recruited.
Kevin Meadowcroft, of Hipperholme, who ran entertainment agency Kontact, signed them up and the band played three nights weekly across the north. Dave said that lifestyle contined for several years and it included supporting 60s star Dave Berry on a UK tour.
In 1976 the band became known as Rigor Mortis but the following year it disbanded and the musicians went their separate ways.
Then, in 1995, the band met for a drink and remembered the old days. Alan was still working with Lloyds Bank, Dave in an office, Jeremy had joined Yorkshire Water and Clive had his own printing business.
It became an annual reunion and then in 2004 they had a private gig at the Maypole, Warley, Halifax.
Occasional private gigs have followed and a public performance at the New Inn, Mount Tabor, Halifax, in 2006. Their ages range from late 50s to early 60s and they play hits from the 60s and a few from the early 70s.
"I think we play better now because we concentrate more and take it more seriously," said Dave.
The band performs in aid of Epilepsy Action on October 10, 7.30 pm, at Halifax Bowing Club, Thrum Hall.
The concert has been organised by club president Jim Gowler whose wife has suffered from epilepsy for many years and band member Dave, whose step-son died from epilepsy in 1996 aged 17.
Also performing will be solo singer Brenda Chapel and tumpet player, Les Barrett.
Tickets cost £2 each and are available from the club, on the door, or 01422 35363
