Rain takes its toll

THE WEATHER conditions meant all games scheduled for Friday, Saturday and yesterday in both the Halifax Saturday League and Halifax Sunday League were postponed.
A handful of games did take place last Thursday before the downpours started, with the most notable seeing home side Southowram push Sunday League champions Elland all the way before going down 2-1 in a Premier Division clash.
Elland took an early lead through Ryan Brooke and went two ahead after the break through Gerry Doherty, but the home side had penned them back for long periods and though Mazlak's penalty came back off the post, they eventually pulled one back through Jimmy Cummings.
However, despite further pressure, the defending champions held on to take the three points.
Local pitches are still suffering because of the continued bad weather and with more rain forecast, the programme is set to suffer further.
