Halifax RLFC: Rhinos teen is in on loan

HALIFAX have signed Leeds Rhinos' goal kicking playmaker Gareth Moore on a season long loan deal.
The 19-year-old, who can play in either half back position, is effectively a replacement for veteran stand off Graham Holroyd, who has joined National League Two outfit Swinton for 2009.
Moore, a regular starter in Leeds' under 21 side this year and a prolific points scorer at junior level, has yet to make a first team appearance for the Headingley club.
The teenager will compete with Ben Black, Bob Beswick, Mick Govin and Dwayne Barker for a berth at the scrum base.
"Gareth is a quality goal-kicking stand-off, but has also played regularly at scrum half," said Fax chief executive Graham Clay, who confirmed the club's roster for next season was now "almost" complete.
"He's been the top points-scorer for Leeds' Academy sides for the last couple of years.
"He has come through the Leeds system, and though he's still only 19 he has been there several years, and has been well coached in a top class Super League environment.
"They rate him very highly, and see him as an eventual first-team player, but he has the two England halfbacks - Danny McGuire and Rob Burrow - in front of him.
"He'll come to us in time for pre-season training and like everyone else he'll have a chance to stake a claim for a first team place.
"With Graham's departure there is a huge opportunity for him, but he faces a lot of competition for a place in the side."
Moore has been on Fax's radar for several months, with a starring performance in the 2007 Junior Academy Grand Final, when he reportedly outplayed St Helens' hot prospect Kyle Eastmond, bringing him to public attention.
The Leeds-born player almost made the switch to the Shay in the summer, but a hand injury ruled him out for several weeks - by which time Fax had lured Black back to the club from Burleigh Bears.
"We kept in touch with Gareth and we are delighted to bring him to the club," said Clay.
"It's a full season deal, and Leeds can only recall him if either McGuire or Burrow go down long-term injured."
