Athletics: Trio shine in Manchester

ALL three Halifax Harriers athletes who took part in the INAS-SID Open European Championships in Sports City, Manchester last weekend returned with medals.
Claire Ryan, Thomas Poulten-White and Ben Robertshaw were on top form in an event held every two years for athletes with learning difficulties.
Ryan collected three gold medals and one silver, becoming European champion in the long jump with a personal best of 4.81metres and showing what a superb all-round athlete she is by taking gold in the pentathlon with 2,067 points, competing in the long jump, discus, javelin, 200 metres and 800 metres.
She also ran the first leg in the gold medal winning 4 x 100 metres relay team and the first leg for the 4 x 400 metres team which won silver.
Poulten-White showed plenty of speed to win bronze in the 4 x 100 metres relay, also finishing sixth in the final of the shot putt with 10.39 metres and reaching the discus final with 29.16 metres.
Robertshaw, whose mother is the Harriers sprint coach, was overjoyed to win silver in 400 metres and went one better in the discus, taking gold with a throw of 12.55 metres.
The athletes were accompanied by Harriers throwing coach Christine Galloway, who was immensely proud of their achievements.
