ENGLAND international Jo Waites and the in form Ben Mounsey ensured the latest race in the British Fell Running Championships at Blackstone Edge near Littleborough was a great day for the Calder Valley club.
The short but tough 3.5 mile race saw Britain's finest fell runners compete over a very wet and boggy course, and Waites demonstrated her dominance on the fells this season with a very strong performance to finish fifth in the women's race in a time of 34 minutes, 29 seconds.
Team mate Helen Fines was also in the top 10 in 35.05, followed by British vet 40's champion Sally Newman, who was 16th in 36.13, and Anne Johnson, and the Calder Valley women's team have now almost all but secured gold medals in both the British and English championships.
Another success story for the ladies was Gail Tombs who took first place for the veteran over 55 class in a time of 46.47.
In the men's race, Mounsey secured a fantastic 11th place of the 192 starters in 28.36 after some excellent climbing and a sprint finish to hold off the challenge of team mate Karl Gray who finished only four seconds behind in 12th position.
Todmorden-based Shaun Godsman also had a superb run to take 17th place in 29.14, only days after winning the Scammonden Dam team relay last Thursday, while Jason Stevens and Steve Smithies rounded up the men's team scoring with strong performances.
