VOLUNTEERS from a Halifax insurance firm started an epic job at Calder Holmes Park, Hebden Bridge.
Some of the 1.2km of railings that surround the park received a fresh coat of paint – but organisers fear the job could turn out to be similar to painting the Forth Rail Bridge.
As part of the National Week for Volunteering, 24 employees of RSA – formerly Royal & SunAlliance – Dean Clough, joined Hebden Royd Town Council in starting the project with the help of Calderdale Cares and Calderdale Council, which provided the materials.
Jason Boom, environmental community warden for Hebden Royd, said: "It is going to be a slow process as the railings have not been painted for over 20 years but the small section we have completed shows how good it will look when we have finished.
"We're aiming to link up the canal path first linking with the new gates on to the tow path that have been recently installed.
"They allow much better access and flexibility for park users."
