Jack Morgan, 29, is in a stable condition with head and back injuries following the accident on August 12.

He had gone for a walk alone in the village of Achnacarnin, near Lochinver, Sutherland, at 7 pm.

His family called the emergency services when he failed to return later that evening and he was found at the base of a set of cliffs.

A coastguard helicopter transferred him to the Western Isles Hospital and he is now being cared for in the intensive care unit at Southern General Hospital, Glasgow.

His father John Morgan said: "He has multiple injuries to his head and back.

"It is too early to say how much recovery is expected."

Stornoway Coastguard Watch Manager Martin Collins said: "The missing man was swiftly located by the Coastguard Rescue Team and transferred via helicopter to hospital in Inverness."

John Morgan and his wife, Janet, moved up to Scotland six weeks ago from Oxenhope.

Jack, his wife Laura, and their four-month-old daughter Eve, were on the last night of a holiday visiting his parents when tragedy struck.

His father said it is believed Jack fell between 10 and 60 feet.
The family have been receiving comforting messages from across West Yorkshire.

He was with the Halifax club for six years during the late 1990s and early 2000s as a back row forward and played for the youth, second and first teams.

His father was a club committee member for several years.

Jack lives at Embsay, near Skipton, and is a lecturer at Craven College, Skipton, in adult literacy and numeracy.
