THERE was home joy unbounded at the Halifax and Huddersfield Union's First Division Scratch Team Championship at an immaculate Woodsome Hall at the weekend.
The Woodsome team were in great form and surged to a single shot victory in a competition appropriately sponsored by home professional John Eyre.

A game Bradley Hall side finished second and the Fixby quartet were eight shots further back in third.

Chris Dyson was star man, the plus one player posting scores of 67 and 70 for a 137 total which was the best individual score on a day when the morning play was hit by heavy showers but the afternoon round took place in bright, sunny conditions.

Whitworth led the challenge of Bradley Hall with rounds of 69 and 70, the first of those being the best first round gross score.

For Meltham man and Union team stalwart Graham McLean, it was an interesting day to say the least.

At the 17th hole, he put his tee shot into the middle of the professionals' practice ground, and he had to search amongst the practice balls to locate his own.

But when he did, he played an excellent approach shot into the heart of the green and holed a putt for a par three to help him to a 72 and the best gross prize for the afternoon round.

In the process he helped his side to fourth place.
