Health and Beauty: The tan that holds back time...

At last a self-tan that turns you into a bronzed goddess and firms your skin at the same time. No wonder we love it.

WHEN Jamiee Adshead returned to her home town of Halifax after working as a Chanel make-up artist on liners like the QE2 and Independence Of The Seas, she thought life might slow down a little.
But the opposite has happened. The 22-year-old is more in demand now than she was at sea, thanks to a revolutionary new self tan that doesn't just get rid of pasty skin but tackles ageing and cellulite at the same time.

Jamiee, who has just opened her own beauty salon above her dad Martin's hairdressers, Adsheads in Coronation Road, Halifax, has introduced the latest "must have" self-tan, Peptide Tanning, to Calderdale.

The tanner, from relatively new company BeautyLab, has been hitting the headlines in national newspapers and magazines because it is the first in the UK to contain peptides (usually found in skincare) so it does two jobs in one. It gives you a long-lasting tan and helps hold back the years at the same time.

The anti-ageing tan contains two forms of peptides. One to stimulate melanin formulation within the skin to produce a deeper tan and another to deeply hydrate and help with things like wrinkles, skin-firming and cellulite.

For years women have used retinol, vitamin C and collagen-based creams to ward off the signs of ageing, however peptide-based products are the latest beauty breakthrough to promise to slow down the clock.

Peptides act as messengers to stimulate collagen production. As we age, collagen production slows down and we develop lines and wrinkles because the skin support structure is weakened.

BeautyLab also does a range of skincare products which are rich in peptides, and both the self-tan and the products are proving popular with both celebrities, and Jamiee's customers. "I love all of BeautyLabs products and I am excited, not just about opening my own business but introducing a new range of products to Calderdale. The self-tanner is amazing. It develops in a couple of hours and leaves skin with a sunkissed look which fades naturally and evenly," says Jamiee, who went to Brighouse High School and the White Rose School of Beauty, Huddersfield.

There are two in-salon tan treaments from BeautyLab to try and fans can also buy a bottle of Peptide Tanning to use at home which costs £17. For those short on time, there is a spray tan at £25 which includes exfoliation and takes 30 minutes. For those who like a more relaxing treatment Jamiee offers exfoliation and a manual tan for £30. That takes one hour.

Jamiee, who has been helped by Martin and her step-mum Angela, also offers BeautyLab facials and body treatments. Her new salon, which has its own entrance, is over two floors and has two beauty rooms, a spray tan room, a show room and toilet and a relaxing chill-out room where clients can help themselves to free drinks.

If you would like to know more about the new self-tan, she is holding an open day on Sunday, September 7, from noon to 6pm. Individuals can just turn up and enjoy bubbly and nibbles and talk to women who have tried the Peptide tan for themselves. For more details ring Jamiee on 07961212051.
