AT this time of year, Helen Williams can usually be found lapping up the sunshine on a Mediterranean beach.
But this month she has gone without her much deserved rest to concentrate on two new projects – moving house and setting up a network cafe for professional men and women.
Helen, a life coach and image consultant, has moved back to Calderdale after living in neighbouring Huddersfield for the past 12 years. And while a new house is exciting in itself, she says it's the network cafe that is firing her up and getting all her attention at the moment.
The cafe, which she is running with her husband Guy, is basically a club for anyone who runs their own business or is employed by a big organisation, and wants to widen their working and social life. Members get the chance to meet like-minded individuals and spread the word about their company, improve their confidence and self esteem as well as business and social skills, learn how to dress to impress, attract the opposite sex, eat healthily, lose weight and relax.
Helen, who used to work for a large financial company in Leeds before setting up her own business, Helipad Lifestyles five years ago, says she has big ambitions for the network cafe which met for the first time last month and attracted 20 individuals whose work ranged from catering and theatre to finance and photography.
"Our goal is to rent our own town centre premises where people can drop in for business and social events and where we can run a variety of day courses and one-to-one coaching sessions. The emphasis will be on the local community, sharing skills and helping businesses and individuals grow, feel fulfilled and get what they want," says Helen who credits a life coach for making her realise how much she wanted to work for herself.
"Some small businesses are out on a limb and the people involved never get the chance to socialise with others in the same boat. Sometimes it is just a case of throwing new ideas around or listening to the advice of others," she says. Helen produces a monthly newsletter which features a case study on a different member each month. It also includes tips and special offers, says Helen who is hoping to attract around 70 members.
At the moment, the group is meeting upstairs at Bar 11, Harrison Road, Halifax, and sessions are very informal with free nibbles and drinks. As well as attending the monthly cafe, members can attend two other group sessions a month or either mixed or same sex get togethers
The next cafe is on Wednesday, September 24 at Bar 11 from 5.15 to 7pm and everyone is welcome says Helen, who writes her own regular life coach column in the Courier.
Membership costs £120 for six months or £180 for the year. Or you can pay £10 for each event. Anyone who would like more details can contact Helen on 07888711714.
