Holroyd was once a thorn in our side

Graham Holroyd is quite definitely one of the senior players at the Shay these days.
He is one of the key voices in the dressing room and on the pitch.
His rehabilitation in the eyes of the Halifax fans has been a revelation as well.
For years he was jeered every time he turned out against his home town club.
There were a few reasons for that.
For a start, a lot of people didn't like the way he opted to sign for Leeds as a 16-year-old instead of moving from Siddal to his hometown club.
Then there was his one season stint here in 1999 which ended with him hopping off to Salford after a troubled campaign.
And there was always the fact he tended to produce matchwinning performances against Fax, especially in the Thrum Hall days.
That was ironic because he had perfected his kicking technique nearby at the Barracks at Wellesley Park and, after moving to Headingley, lived a stones throw away from the ground on Byron Street.
One of those standout performances for the Loiners was in January 1994 when he had just forced his way into the first team. He bombed Steve Hampson - normally such a safe pair of hands - to death at Thrum Hall and Leeds took the points with tries from those mistakes.
Then there was Wednesday, July 1, 1997…almost 11 years ago to the day.
To say the Blue Sox were in a certain amount of disarray is an understatement.
They had arrived back from Australia 10 days previously after a humiliating time Down Under saw heavy defeats at Canterbury, Canterbury and Brisbane.
Even stand-up comedians in Sydney were taking the mickey.
"It'll be hot when Halifax come to town…it's guaranteed to be in the 70's" was a typical gag.
And the first game back in England had been a lacklustre affair when Paris St Germain had sneaked the points the previous Sunday.
The club was in financial difficulties and the bank had been demanding a new business plan and cash flow projection whilst the team had been away.
John Pendlebury wanted £20,000 to sign loose forward Kevin O'Loughlin from St Helens; he had played with his father at Wigan and rated the lad highly.
Wayne Parker had been jettisoned from the payroll after having his contract ripped up by mutual agreement a month previously to make room for him.
To the game at Headingley…….
The match ebbed and flowed but Fax were 18-2 in front in the second half thanks partially to a scintillating solo try from halfway by David Bouveng.
Leeds hit back and Holroyd's try levelled matters with six minutes to go.
John Schuster missed an eminently kickable penalty by his standards late on before Holroyd stepped up to kick a late penalty – instead of Iestyn Harris on the say-so of his skipper Gary Mercer.
Those heroics didn't do him any favours though at Headingley because he was soon transfer listed at £195,000. He was linked with Halifax – potentially in a swap with Paul Rowley – but it was to be December 1998 before he finally moved to the Shay.
